Garden-inspired ceremony aisle flowers with layered candlelight and lanterns in Crozet Virginia

Rachel & Tom celebrated the loveliest December wedding at King Family Vineyards surrounded by snowy Blue Ridge Mountain views, candlelight, lush winter greenery, and romantic floral design in rich shades of red, blue, and white.

The color palette leaned wintery and nostalgic in deep reds, icy blues, layered greenery, and soft whites that felt like snowfall drifting through the mountains surrounding Crozet, Virginia.

Tom & Rachel are genuinely some of the sweetest people. On his already busy wedding day, Tom still took the time to cheer me on while I successfully backed the U-Haul into place at the venue.

Throughout the wedding day, thoughtful and intentional details were everywhere. Memory tables lined the cocktail hour space with photographs of beloved family members, friends, and pets who were deeply missed and lovingly remembered throughout the celebration.

Indoor Winter Wedding at King Family Vineyards

Because December weather in Virginia is never entirely predictable, Rachel & Tom chose to host both their ceremony and reception inside The Carriage House at King Family Vineyards. The decision created an intimate and cozy atmosphere filled with candlelight, layered floral installations, and warm winter textures.

Hosting both events in the same space also allowed our floral team to intentionally transition ceremony flowers into the reception design throughout the evening. Candles and lanterns from the ceremony aisle were later moved onto reception tables, while the flower meadow boxes lining the ceremony aisle were repurposed in front of the DJ booth and sweetheart table to create even more visual impact during the reception.

Fireplace Floral Installation with Winter Greenery

To transform the Carriage House for both ceremony and reception moments, the couple chose two large-scale floral installations.

The first installation centered around the stone fireplace where lush smilax greenery climbed the chimney. The movement of the greenery connected the full mantel installation to a smaller floral arrangement on the hearth. Large lanterns and candles created an immersive festive winter feel throughout the ceremony space.

The snowy weather outside paired beautifully with the cool blue tones woven throughout the floral design. The entire space felt deeply connected to the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounding the vineyard.

Sweetheart Table Floral Installation

The second large installation framed Rachel & Tom’s sweetheart table for the evening, creating a dramatic floral backdrop for dinner, speeches, and both their first and last dances of the night.

Layered greenery, candlelight, and winter florals surrounded the couple and helped the reception feel intimate despite the large open space inside the Carriage House.

Winter Wedding Flowers in Red, Blue, and White

Greenery played a major role throughout the floral design, paired with layered shades of red ranging from deep burgundy to brighter holiday-inspired tones, accented by soft blue and white flowers. The soft blue tones mirrored the snowy Blue Ridge Mountains, as though we had brought a bit of snowfall indoors.

Additional focal flowers included:

  • blue thistle
  • red Gerbera daisies
  • cobra lilies
  • several varieties of red roses
  • winter greenery
  • smilax vine

The tables featured a mix of floral centerpieces, gold lanterns, layered candlelight, and greenery woven throughout the reception design. Round guest tables incorporated both floral and lantern arrangements. The long banquet tables featured gold lanterns surrounded by candles, greenery, and winter florals for a warm and romantic atmosphere.

Petite Cascading Bridal Bouquet

Rachel requested a petite cascading bridal bouquet — a style that is deceptively difficult to execute well. Cascading bouquets are known for requiring careful movement and balance; designing one on a smaller, more delicate scale can be trickier.

Surprisingly, her bouquet came together almost effortlessly. The flowers naturally fell into an extra-long, petite cascade with beautiful movement and shape. It’s always one of the best feelings as a florist when the flowers simply fall into place exactly as envisioned.

A Cozy and Romantic Winter Wedding in Virginia

Between the snowfall, candlelight, lush greenery, layered florals, and intentional personal details, Rachel & Tom’s King Family Vineyards wedding felt incredibly warm, romantic, and inviting.

The combination of winter textures, floral installations, and cozy indoor reception design created a celebration that felt timeless, immersive, and deeply personal. It’s the perfect way to embrace a snowy December wedding in Virginia.

"She clearly has a love and talent for her work, and it shines in what she does!

I cannot say enough good things about my experience working with Keturah on the flowers for our wedding. She created my bridal bouquet, boutonnières for my husband and my father, and corsages for the mothers of the bride and groom along with an installation that served as the backdrop for our ceremony and family photos. During our initial consultation she asked lots of questions to make sure she knew our likes, dislikes, and the look and feel of our wedding. Her designs were gorgeous and original, incorporating blooms that were local and in-season. She went the extra mile in building her own frame for the installation when the one she normally used was unavailable. The arrangements she made for the installation were lovely and unique in their use of red amaranth to create a cascading effect. Guests are still complementing us on how lovely the flowers were even 4 months after our wedding!
I would not hesitate to recommend Keturah to a bride (anyone) looking for floral designs using in-season blooms and creative flair.
