Alex & I got married on a freezing fall day, 5 years ago. Literally, it was freezing. Anytime our wedding is brought up, people say “you know what I remember about your wedding? How cold it was!” Look at us, we were babies!
I always wanted a spring wedding, but it turned out that when it was time to get married I just wanted to be married and not wait for spring. So, for our 5th wedding anniversary, I got my photographer friend Juliana Wall to hike up Stony Man Trail on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park to take vow renewal photos.
I dug out my wedding dress and removed a layer of tulle to sew this little skirt for Saffron so we could match. The day of the shoot, I arrived home to our motorhome to find our canopy tent that housed our outdoor kitchen had blown over and broken! So, instead of making a flower bouquet, I had to figure out what to do with all our kitchen appliances.
Thankfully, my sister-in-law happens to not only be a flower farmer, but an amazing floral designer too! She graciously made me a bouquet, which was more beautiful than I could have imagined! I had enough time to make a tiny bouquet for Saffron to carry and a boutonniere for Alex.
We took my nephew along to help make sure that Saffron wouldn’t fall off the edge. We hiked up, took photos, our nephew chattered the ears off Juliana’s boyfriend, who kindly ensured that no kids were harmed on the cliffs.
We got ready on the trail and then ended up on the bluffs of Stony Man Trail in Shenandoah National Park. We ended up hiking down in the dark and the lanterns came in pretty handy! It was an incredible experience and one that I’ll treasure forever!
